2. Dance Ensemble Singapore: Dance
Dance Ensemble Singapore is a non -profit arts organization which was established in July 1993. Under the direction of its Founder, Mdm Yan Choong Lian, present patron Dr Aline Wong, the ensemble has become a well-established ethnic dance company. The Ensemble has distinguished itself in the past years with numerous outstanding public performances in both local and overseas major events such as Singapore Arts Festival, National Day Parades, Chingay procession. Festival of Asian Performing Arts and Chinese Cultural Festivals; Nan Ying International Folklore Festival in Taiwan, Asian Tourism Festival in Japan, ASEAN Cultural Week in Cambodia, Matsuyama Autumn Festival in Kagoshima, Japan, Interweave with Hong Kong Zephyr Dance Troupe, International Dance Festival, Genting, Malaysia, “Paradise” with Macau Conservatory of Dance, International Summer Dance Festival, Philadelphia respectively. The Ensemble membership has increased from a mere hundred to 700 members to date. The Ensemble aims to nurture young talents through creative and quality dance training and to upgrade the local artistic standard through various arts activities. In addition, the Ensemble has organized seminars, dance exchange programmes, dance camp, and overseas dance tours to upgrade the members ‘dance technique and knowledge. It has also invited international acclaimed choreographers and dance instructors from China, Taiwan and the United States to provide other form of dance training for the members.

3. Creative Choreographer and Dance Partner, Ms Tey Danyi Angela

1984 – Early training at age of 3yrs at Yan Choong Lian Dance Troupe (former name of DES);
1996 – Completed the 10 years dance training at a professional level and graduated with a awarded certificate with Youth Intermediate Grade 4 from Dance Ensemble Singapore;
1996 – Certificate Recognized and awarded 3rd prize for “Drizzling Frolic” (Starry Starry Night) in Dance Ensemble Singapore Youth Dance Competition;
1998 – completed the 2 years dance performing, teaching, choreography training and graduated with an Advance Professional Certificate awarded by Dance Ensemble Singapore;
1999 – Key dancer of main dance production of Dance Ensemble Singapore participated in Singapore Arts Festival. Played a lead role of “Raising The Red Lantern”, “Stratagem” “Drizzling Frolic”, “Splendiferous” and “Tinkle Chime”;
2002- Graduated with a Diploma in Building & Engineering Services at the Ngee Ann Polytechnic and become a full time dancer, instructor and Project Coordinator with Dance Ensemble Singapore since June;
2002 – 2010: Choreography works includes Dance Ensemble’s DES Arts production & DES School production:
2004 – 2006 Key dancer of the DES Arts. Played a lead role of “Soaring Strokes” by Singapore (Gan Meiling) 2004, “Moonlight” by USA (Mr Lin Kun Yang) 2005; “Silhouettes” by Singapore (Lim Mei Chian) 2006;
2005 – Has attained the sub-elementary level (CSTD) Highly Commended in Major Classical Ballet Examination under The Commonwealth Society of Teacher of Dancing;
2002 – 2010 – Dance instructor and choreographer of the DES School’s Children & Youth Dance Education Course;
2007 December – Key dancer of the DES Dance School. Played a lead role of “The Beautiful Legend” University Cultural Centre Hall;

Has also widened her repertoire not only in different dance techniques but have also received training in multi-disciplinary art forms such as music, vocal at 海碟Hai Die Music School (music & vocal Training) 2006, martial arts and drama;
Apart from that, has worked with internationally renowned choreographers like (Ms Tian Pei Pei) Cultural Dance Training at China 1998, Contemporary Dance Training in USA (John Mead) 2001, Contemporary Dance Training in USA (Mr Lin Kun Yang) 2001, Contemporary Dance Training in DES with USA (Ms Yasman) 2002, Contemporary dance Training in Australia at Chunky Move (Mr Gideon Obarzanek) 2005, Cultural Dance Training in DES with China (Mr Liang Jian Ping) 2005, Contemporary dance Training in DES with USA (Ms Janis Brenner) 2008 and Chinese Contemporary Dance at Macau (Mr Ying Er Ding) 2008;
Was a member of DES Arts Performing Group and Ensemble’s Little Angels and represented Singapore to perform dance showbiz extensively in both local and in overseas, such as Macau, Spain, France, New Zealand, Japan-Nagoya, Cambodia, China, Taiwan and Malaysia Genting Highlands.
4. Chinese Theatre Works and Drama
Doreen Toh has had 20 years of experience in early childhood education, theatre as well as speech and drama instruction. She has received her early childhood educator’s certificate as well as taught at various prominent childcare centres. Her experiences in both drama and education have served her well and she has been invited to Thailand, Cambodia and Bengal on drama in education exchange programs.
Doreen is also a prolific actor, having received her training from, and subsequently worked with several professional theatre companies in Singapore including, The Theatre Practice, The Finger Players as well as Drama Box, in productions local and overseas. She has also conducted speech and drama training course for children on behalf of these companies.
Currently, Doreen remains actively involved in theatre and community performances as well as speech and drama instruction in secondary, primary and early childhood institutions.
