SAM Think! Contemporary Preschool Art Exhibition Waterway 2024 Theme

Hello Future: Building a Wonderland

In 2024, Nobleland Arts N Learning Place @ Waterway partnered with Singapore Art Museum for the Think! Contemporary Preschool Programme, culminating in the exhibition Hello Future: Building a Wonderland. Through this collaboration, our children explored the question “What does a sustainable future mean to you?” by engaging with contemporary artworks and expressing their ideas through art, imagination, and storytelling.

During their visits to SAM at Tanjong Pagar Distripark, the children were introduced to significant artworks, including Black Forest by Cultural Medallion recipient Han Sai Por. The powerful imagery of a burnt forest left a lasting impression on the children and sparked meaningful conversations about environmental destruction and resilience. This led them to wonder whether life could continue to thrive despite such devastation.

Inspired by these reflections, the children created Underground City (2024) using acrylic paint, cardboard boxes, toilet rolls, and plastic packaging (dimensions: 54 × 50 × 62 cm and 42 × 59 × 56 cm). Through this artwork, the children imagined a resilient and bustling city built underground — a place where life continues to flourish even in challenging conditions. With creativity and hope, these young artists invite viewers to reflect on the importance of protecting the environment and the homes we share, offering a whimsical yet thoughtful vision of a sustainable future for Singapore.
