SSDB Project 2024

Courageous Wings Cherry, the Brave Owl

Objective: Create a story on the spotted wood owl to raise awareness of endangered animals

During a current affairs discussion, the teachers showed the children a video about a spotted wood owl that had been injured and rescued by a zookeeper. The zookeeper cared for the owl and attempted to release it back into the wild, but the first attempt was unsuccessful as the owl had not yet fully recovered. After one to two weeks of continued care, the owl was finally strong enough to be set free.

Inspired by the story, the teachers took the children outdoors for a planting session to reinforce the importance of protecting owls and other wildlife in Singapore. The teachers explained that trees and plants are essential for the survival of birds like owls, as they provide shelter and food. Seeing the direct connection between nature and wildlife, the children became eager to take action. Their curiosity and enthusiasm led them to embark on this meaningful project, aiming to create a more sustainable and wildlife-friendly environment.
